Naked
What characterises these pieces, is the way in which the metal is minimally treated. After casting, the jewellery is polished sparingly, just enough to emphasise certain shapes and angles. Leaving the raw, ‘naked’ surface of the gold and silver, means that the wearer will experience the polishing of the piece herself, as she moves through life with her jewellery. Through impact, the lustre of the metal’s surface will increase; each small scratch or knock may add shine to the material’s matte exterior.
The pieces evoke a warmth and softness in the matte metal contrasted with the often rough, uncut gemstones chosen by the maker. The interplay of texture, of the yellowness of unpolished gold against the bright hues of the stones is emphasised by their structure, the gems set as if being gently embraced by the metal itself.
